My name is Karen and I currently live in Miami. I lived in So-California for 6 years until 2023. But most importantly, I was raised in Northern NJ.
I was born in Venezuela and my parents are both Colombians. It was on the East Coast that my spiritual studies began. When I started this walk, I felt very connected to Wicca which led me to my Goddess studies. At 28 years old I was introduced to Tarot and after 3 years of studying, I was initiated and chose the reader name of Mia Fortuna.
I was then initiated into Toltec Shamanism and was given my name (which I don't share publicly) by my teacher, Irma Starspirit Turtle Woman in NYC. Truth be told, I prefer the term Curandera than Shaman.
To add more to my studies, I am a certified Herbalist (13+ years), Flower Designer and of course, I am a proud plant and a puppy mamma.
I have always been an Empath, my earliest memories of seeing Spirit, I was maybe 2- 3 years old. As a medium, I have the ability to see (clairvoyance), hear (clairaudience), smell (clairalience), and feel (claircognizance) Spirit and Animism.
These studies have led me to all the work I currently do like my candles, womb healing, baños, spiritual jewelry, Astro-Herbal grids, Tarot, Limpias (including Limpia de Huevo), and herbal medicine. For example, my womb offering is specifically created for women who have become disconnected to their creative cauldron, specially because of fear. If I can help at least one woman from experiencing what I did (partial hysterectomy) then I have served my purpose!
I just finished a clinical herbalist program, with Berenice Dimas, from HoodHerbalism, where we focused on the BIPOC community. Such studies have been extremely helpful in connecting with my PlantCestors.
I also guide past-life regressions and soul retrievals by drumming ceremonies.
As far as the future, I am not only continuing my studies but I am hoping to offer either my first retreat or start my mentorship program in 2024-2025. I also want to become a Death doula, continue to work with a Colombian Curandera to connect deeper with my heritage, become Reiki certified, continue to write until I can publish my book (folktales) and maybe open a physical shop! There so much more!
By the way, it doesn't matter how long one studies and practices, it's been 18 years for me, I learn every day from this amazing community. Personally, it is extremely important to support all those finding their voices and path. I may be called a healer, but truthfully, I am a vessel for my ancestors, spirit and guides.
So welcome and muchas gracias for being here!
